First Smiles...And Snot...

Baby girl has really been laying it on thick with the smiles recently...and today at the library I finally caught the tail end of one on my lame-o camera phone. Still, its sweet enough to give you diabetes.

 Aaaaah, love.

I know I said that my next post would be about Finn but my goodness that boy has the nastiest runny nose I ever did see and its truly unblogworthy just in grossness alone. It just. keeps. running. Why? Is it two-year old molars coming in? A simple cold? Or possibly just that toddler nose seepage happens and the cause is one of the universe's greatest mysteries...that one sounds about right.

He's still talking up a storm though. He's started saying 'yes' a lot, which one would think would be a good thing, right? Not so. He uses it instead of saying 'please'...like so:

"Boo boo (shamefully, his pacifier), yes!", "crackers (his favorite food), yes!" "Up (as in pick me up, my legs don't work anymore), yes!"...like, here's what I want and here's what you're supposed to say. He's a genius.

Mensa, watch out, if his IQ alone won't get him in, he'll just persuade you.

But what post would be complete without a picture of Finn wearing a BurgerKing crown upside down while reading the paper?...so with no further adieu!!!
Oh, that boy of mine. If I could love him any more, I would. But I can't :)

Growing Up...

A few days old:

6 weeks old:

I could fill this blog with a whole slew of bad cell phone pictures of this pretty lady, but I'll spare you...for now :)

Up next? Probably a post about Finn...that crazy, kid.

Don't Mess...

You know those days when you just don't feel like putting up with other people's crap?

Even if those other people are 5 year old kids with their mom within earshot?

Yeah, I have those days.

We went to the library yesterday and as usual, Finn guns it to the train set they have there...usually there are other kids there and usually they share trains.

Usually.

As soon as Finn got there, these two kids started ripping every train Finn tried to play with out of his hands. And Finn doesn't really get it. You know, because he's not even two yet? Most of the time I let him figure it out on his own...learn social norms, play fair, I don't want to be that mom...all that.

Most of the time.

This time, momma bear wasn't up for it. It went down, yo...

I started out (relatively)  nice:
"Guys, share."
"Seriously, share the trains...he just wants one."

Then sh** got real:
"You know what, kid? If you don't let him have one train, I'm gonna take them all."
"Seriously. Don't test me."

Then I hoped the mom (who was right there!!!) was listening. She wasn't:
"Ok, you know what, your mom obviously didn't teach you any manners. Learn some."

Finn runs off crying because the kids are still not sharing so I grab three trains out of spite so he can play with them somewhere else.

We all have bad days, what can I say...but mostly it just pisses me off when big kids take advantage of the little kids and then talk back to me. I never thought I had that protective instinct, but damn, I get all sorts of momma bear when Finn gets caught in the middle of it.

Thankfully, Finn realized we were in a library and a library filled with more than just trains...books! Go figure. He got all the Sesame Street books and would sit down and 'read' them to Isla. Holy crap, it was adorable. Even if she was asleep.

He seriously loves this little gal so much. The first words out of his mouth in the morning are, "Isla! Isla!" as he goes to find her. And  then all day he likes to try and pick her up (scary) and kiss her, lay next to her and put her pacifier in her mouth. He also loves saying goodnight to her.

Adorbs.

We'll see how long it lasts.

But for now I'm totally relishing it.

So there you go, learn your lesson...don't mess with my kids.

Oh, Luke...

...always the comedian that guy. Especially at bedtime.

Remember when I had a dream that put Finn's sleepsack on upside-down and Luke did this to me one night?:

That's Finn with his sleepsack on upside down, FYI.

Well, tonight we ran out of onesies with the little cuffs on the hands (you know, so Isla doesn't wake up looking like she's been mauled by a tiger), so Luke did this:

Tee hee! Little arms
I laughed so hard I cried and Isla was totally indifferent about it, which made it funnier. Heaven help these children if Luke got them ready for bed every night.

Gotta give it to him, though...he is resourceful.

Big Day Out...

Finally got around to taking little missus to ye old church down the road...she had a nice big poo 10 minutes into it so we left shortly thereafter...but hey! It gave me an excuse to dress her up in a cute dress and I finally got to wear some new shoes. Everybody wins!

Proof.
She's getting fantastically chubby isn't she? (Isla, not me...don't be rude!)

I Still Exist...

...only not so much in the 'blogging' world at the moment.

Really, I'm just tired. Somebody needs to get these two kids of mine in sync (Like the band! Ah! 90's music! Sleep deprived tangents!). Someone needs to tell Isla that sleep happens like, ALL night long, not just part of it. And someone else needs to tell Finn that I'm tired and I don't want to run around like a maniac with him all day. Actually, I do want to, so scratch that. Just tell Isla to sleep.

As you can see...tired.

We are, however, enjoying my mom's last week out in Utah for a while. Its been great having an extra set of hands around to help...I really don't know how I'm going to handle these two monsters without her. Finn needs so much physical attention while Isla is just a worry-wart who cries at me much of the day.

Sigh.

And its about to get a lot busier around here. No final details for y'all yet. Oh no. I'm gonna make you wait. But it involves possibly packing, possibly moving, and possibly a lot of paint swatches. Take your guesses!

As far as the kiddos themselves go, they are fantastico. Finn is talking like a maniac and can spot letters 'O', 'I', 'S', 'E', 'A' and sometimes 'T'. He can 'read' a few short words, but lets face it, he can't  actually read, we've just trained him like a monkey. Its great :) My mom did an evil thing and taught him how to say 'That's mine!' so now he feels he can take anything, say its his, and he's good to go.

It's actually kind of cute, so for now he's getting away with it.

He's also obsessed with this educational book on horses that I stole from my elementary school (no joke). He flips to the page with the paint horse and yells, 'Bubba!'...the name of my horse from way back when. He also points at the jousters and says, 'they crash!'. And for the finale he points at the pictures of hay and grass and says, 'they eat grass' and then proceeds to put his face on the book and pretend to eat it.

Precious.

He also loves trucks. Anything with four wheels is a 'truck'. And lawn mowers. On Mondays when the courtyard in our complex gets mowed he stares out the window for (what seems like) hours saying 'mower' over and over and over again. It gets repetitive, but I'll convince myself its cute for his sake.

And Isla? She's great too. Duh.

We're still getting into a groove but I've switched her to mostly formula and she's been a lot happier. But seriously, she's literally hungry or eating ALL. DAY. LONG. She'll drink 5oz of formula and be hungry 2 hours later at the most. Its ridiculous. She's still pretty tiny too.

Basically, I'm jealous. Tall, skinny and can eat whatever she wants. Sheesh.

Now, the only thing I need from her is some decent sleep at night. That hungry-two-hours-later thing doesn't end just because the sun goes down.

Tips anyone? Anyone?

*Crickets*

No? It was worth a try.

And on that note, I bid you all a sleepy adieu.

Blog posts are so exciting! So is my playmat!

The Elegorilorse Is Back...With a Vengance

Remember the strangest case of sleep deprivation ever? No? Click here. Too lazy to click there? I'll explain. Finn was a sleep-grunter. He sounded like an Elegorilorse. It was great (minus the sleep deprivation).

Isla is following suit in a big way. While she isn't the best sleeper in the world (she's up for a snack every two hours. Ugh), when she does sleep she is loud about it. The elephant, gorilla, and horse noises just. don't. stop.

The Beatles got it right when they said they were so tired. And they wanted a drink and a cigarette. I feel ya, boys.

So far her only saving grace at nighttime is that I can read while she neighs in her bassinet and therefore feel tired and intellectual come morning.

Other than that she's a little dreamboat. Finn still loves/ignores her and I can only imagine that they'll be best of friends at some point in time in their lives. Maybe once he stops trying to sit on her? Yeah, that happens.

But he also likes to run into our room in the morning and peak at her sleeping in her bassinet (Did I mention she falls asleep around the time Finn wakes up? Oy). So thats cute.

She also has really, really long arms and toes and fingers. The nurses at her 2 week check up kept commenting on it. And she's a whole inch taller than Finn was at her age. We got a lanky one on our hands here. Another Rebarchik to put my height to shame, I'm afraid.

 An Elegorilorse? Me?!
